CDC issues Zika related Health Advisory for Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, Florida
The Florida Department of Health (FL DOH) has identified an area with local, active mosquito-born Zika virus transmission in Miami, The first confirmed transmission by local mosquito within the US or DC. Based on the earliest time of symptom onset and maximal two-week incubation period for Zika virus, the CDC has issued a travel advisory and guidance particularly as it applies to women of reproductive age and their partners who live in or travel to this area after June 15, 2016.

2016 Utah Nurses Association Annual Conference Update
The 2016 Utah Nurses Association Annual Conference will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Little America Hotel and Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year’s theme, Nurses: Pivotal Advocates for Safety, is centered on development of safe cultures in the individual and community settings. As with all previous conferences, this is the time for Utah nurses to join together for networking, education and discussions aimed at improving safety through the profession. During the meeting, the Utah Nurses Association will host it Annual Membership Assembly meeting including a presentation on the Nurse Practice Act.
In conjunction with the Annual Conference, the Utah Nurses Association will host its inaugural Annual Advocacy Preparation Conference. The theme will be Preparing Nurses and Health Professionals for Advocating Effectively, and will be held Thursday,
October 27, 2016 at the Little America Hotel and Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. This conference will provide nurses and other interested health care professionals hands on advocacy training focused on improving understanding, process and strategy to effectively advocate for causes that affect nurses.
There will be a Reception following the Advocacy Preparation Conference (the evening before the Annual Conference) that all nurses and student nurses are welcome to attend to meet other nurses from across the state. Following the reception, the UNA will host a showing of the movie, The American Nurse, for those who would like a chance to see this outstanding portrayal of our profession.
You are welcome and encouraged to attend both days, the Utah Nurses Association would love to have you as part of the conference and organization.
Honors in Nursing
On May 9, nurses from across the state were honored at the annual Honors in Nursing evening. This event has been held every year since 1994, in coordination with National Nurses Week, in honor of Florence Nightingale's birthday. It is hosted by the University of Utah College of Nursing Alumni Association, to honor nurses throughout the state. Kathleen Kauffman was honored by members of the UNA for her lifelong dedication to patients and her fellow nurses. The Dare to Care award was given to Ann Hutton, PhD, APRN for her contributions to psychiatric and metal health services. Congratulations to all honorees!
