The board of directors are lead by 8 officers elected by the association members.  These officers are complimented by committee chairs, affiliate organization representatives and the immediate past president.

President - Aimee McLean BSN, RN, CCHP

Aimee is currently an RN Case Manager working for University of Utah Main Hospital Emergency Department.  Previously she worked for UofU College of Nursing's Faculty Practice as a Juvenile Corrections Nurse and a Telephone Advice Nurse.  She is a Certified Correctional Healthcare Provider.  Aimee moved to Utah in 2011 and holds active nursing licenses in three states. She was nominated for the UNA Emerging Nurse Leader award in 2014 and has served the UNA Membership as a Director at Large, Second Vice President and now President of the association. Her previous duties as Second Vice President included being Editor of the Utah Nurse.  Aimee earned her ADN at University of Cincinnati and her BSN at University of Utah. She is currently in a Masters program at the University of Utah and enjoys the challenge of learning while working.


First Vice President - Donner Schweitzer BSN, RN

Donner has returned to direct patient care as a clinic nurse at an urgent care in the valley.  She was previously the Clinical Nurse Educator for the Ortho-Trauma and Surgical Specialty Unit at the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City.  Most of her bedside experience is in orthopedics and trauma.  She also has some experience as a dialysis nurse.  She received her undergraduate degree in nursing from Weber State University.  She is currently pursuing her masters degree in nursing education from the University of Utah College of Nursing. Donner is a huge proponent of continuing education in nursing.

Second Vice President - Claire Schupbach BSN, RN, CPC, CHP

Currently an industry consultant, Claire previously served as Strategic Account Manager at Verisk Health and as Client Service Director for SCIO Health Analytics, companies addressing payment integrity in the healthcare reimbursement industry.  Claire previously worked many years in clinical research including both pharmaceutical and device companies.  She worked in sales, product development and account management.  Her clinical practice centered on wound care, circulating in the O.R., triage, perioperative patient care and program management for a large practice.  During her business tenure she created an international niche market leveraging the privately owned Utah Company's proprietary research methodology.  This new product was sold on two continents outside the U.S.Claire has worked as a Nurse Analyst, Clinical Investigator, and Strategic Account Manager. Within her duties, she provided clinical coding and fraud consulting, implemented HITECH ACT compliant policies and procedures, systems training and headlined implementations.  Claire is currently a Registered Nurse, Certified Coder, and Certified HIPAA Professional. She received her BSN in 2007 from Northern Arizona University and has 14 years total in the medical field, 10 as an RN.

Treasurer - Tracy Schaffer MSN, RN

As a registered nurse, with more than 18 years of experience in advancing roles in the health care industry, Tracy has held administrative and leadership roles in her practice as well as practiced as a bedside nurse for many years.  She states her heart has always been nursing.  Even as a young child, she remembers telling people she wanted to be a nurse.  Tracy ran for treasurer because she felt like had had the opportunity to experience so much in her profession as a registered nurse that she is now ready to give back to the profession that has made her who she is today. Tracy worked in a rural hospital for 13 years, and was able to advance into a hospital administrator as well as the Emergency Manager for the hospital.She has participated in many committees and on boards in health care, emergency management, and emergency services.  Most recently, she served as a board member for North Tooele Fire Department where she also held the position of treasurer for approximately four years.  Tracy earned her ADN, BSN and MSN degrees from Weber State University. She now works as the Director of Nursing and Allied Health at Tooele Applied Technology College.

Director at Large-Sharon Dingman DNP, RN

Sharon is the Founder and President of The Caring Model® (TCM) LLC serving as Senior Consultant. She is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in nurse caring and compassion associated with patient-family-nurse satisfaction. She has more than 30 years of professional nursing practice from staff nurse to nurse executive, educator, and consultant.Her Master’s thesis included the creation and subsequent successful implementation and sustainment of TCM® to Improve Patient Satisfaction in numerous acute care hospitals in the United States, England and Denmark. Her Doctoral project developed four education modules to enhance nurse caring and improve patient satisfaction. She is active in nursing professional organizations, and serves as a member of the Nursing Education Peer Committee of the Utah Board of Nursing.She recently retired from her position as an Assistant Professor in theDoctor of Nursing Program for Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. Dr. Dingman applies her vast nursing executive and clinical leadership experience to assist health care organizations improve patient-experience nurse communication satisfaction goals associated with value-based outcome indicators and financial reimbursement.


Director at Large - Blaine Winters DNP, ACNP-BC

Blaine ran for Director at large because he wanted to make a difference for the profession of nursing in Utah. One of the responsibilities of this officer is to work with rejuvenating one of the standard UNA committees. Blaine has chosen to revitalize the Education Committee.  He has vast experince serving on and running committees in practice, academia, and community settings.  A Director at Large also serves to represent an area of nursing that is not currently well represented on UNA committees. Blaine aslo has working knowledge of many types of nursing including gerontology, medical/surgical nursing, critical care, administration, academia, and advanced practice nursing. Additionally he spent time working with undergraduate nursing students in the Navajo Nation in Arizona.  Through this experience he learned a great deal regarding caring for Native Americans as well as other high risk populations.

Communications Director - Angela York BSN, RN, C-AL 

Angela is a University of Utah School of Nursing graduate with an additional Bachelor's in Health Promotion and Education with a Consumer Emphasis, also from the U. Angela served as an intern for UNA. Currently, Angela is an Assisted Living Nurse in Sugar House. She is passionate about the profession of nursing,  promoting the role of nurses in leadership positions, increasing nurses voices into applicable legislation, advocating for the rights of our aging population--particularly those in long-term care, and has goals to become a geriatric nurse practitioner.


GRC Co-Chair - Kathleen Kaufman MS, RN 

Kathleen has been a member of the ANA and state affiliates in Maryland and then Utah since 1978.  She has been active on several committees including newsletter, conference and government relations committee (GRC).  Currently she is one of the co-chairs for the GRC.  Now retired, her career spanned four decades in trauma care, critical care, general medical-surgical nursing and one year stint in rehabilitation nursing.  She taught clinical nursing at the University of Utah for 26 years and has a passion for both health policy and the history of nursing, having co-authored the history of the LDS hospital.  Kathleen has served twice as the President of the UNA and currently sits on the board as a committee co-chair.  She loves retirement and now spends a fair amount of time on Capital Hill representing the UNA.


GRC Co-Chair - CJ Ewell, MS, APRN-BC

CJ is a Family Nurse Practitioner (U of U ’96), National Registry Paramedic (WSU ’13), and current Director of Practical Nursing and Allied Health at Uintah Basin Applied Technology College in Roosevelt, Utah.

She is proud to be a long-time member of Utah Nurses Association, serving as past Chair and current Co-Chair of the Government Relations Committee. CJ is passionate about patient safety and accessible, affordable, and high-quality patient care for all Utahns.


GRC Co-Chair - Diane Forster-Burke MS, RN

Diane retired from teaching nursing at Westminster College after 29 years. Her greatest joy is to hear from alumni about what they are doing.  She received the College's Excellence in Teaching Award in 2013.  She is a faith community (parish) nurse in her church.  She is a faith community nursing educator and taught over 50 nurses in Utah about this remarkable nursing practice. Prior to teaching at Westminster, she was a public health nursing director in Tooele County.  Her first RN position was at Cottonwood Hospital working on a medical surgical unit utilizing primary care nursing. She has always maintained that nurses must be aware of bills and what legislators are trying to accomplish, for good or ill. She has been a member of UNA since 1977.  


 Membership Co-Chair - Peggy Anderson DNP, RN

Peggy is currently employed as an associate teaching professor at Brigham Young University, College of Nursing. She received her baccalaureate degree in Nursing, master's degree in Healthcare Administration from Brigham Young University, and DNP from the University of Utah.

Peggy previously served in the UNA 1st Vice President and Secretary positions. She also previously served as Faculty Advisor to the Utah Student Nurses' Association at the state level. Her goal is to foster a culture that appreciates professional commitment and creates new synergies among nurses and the community.
